Involve Your School

Foundation Nepal is working to promote development education at schools around Ireland.

Development education helps to develop young people’s sense of civic responsibility, and help them to appreciate how much we have here in Ireland, as well as understanding the root causes of poverty and inequality in the world.

We work with primary and secondary schools, particularly Transition Year students, to develop a tailor-made programme in conjunction with the school. Components can include workshops, projects on Nepal and the developing world, the Worldwise School Linking Programme for secondary schools, the Our World Irish Aid Awards for primary schools, the Young Social Innovators Awards for secondary schools, work experience for students with us in Ireland, and assistance with our fundraising events such as volunteers for street collections.

We give students an insight into life in remote parts of Nepal and our work there by looking at photos and video clips, as well as seeing how some of the people we work with actually spend their day. We also talk about the everyday realities of living in a caste-based society, and women’s roles and child labour in Nepal. The emphasis is on involving students and getting them to think for themselves about development issues, and how the root causes of poverty can be addressed.
