Current Programmes

Foundation Nepal’s current work falls under our five-year CHEWI Programme (Community Healthcare, Education, Women’s Empowerment and Income generation), which began in early 2008.

The CHEWI Programme is a holistic approach that specifically focuses on improving food production and nutrition, and developing micro-business opportunities, mainly with women’s groups and co-ops, to support the empowerment of women and low caste people. The programme also encompasses running health posts, and supporting primary education, women’s literacy and vocational education for men.

The emphasis is always on developing sustainable solutions. This is why we work in partnership with local communities and employ and train local people, so that they are accountable to their own communities. The CHEWI Programme embraces the UN Millennium Development Goals and is approved by the Nepali government.
